]]>Dr. Katharine Pula traveled with a group from her health system to The Gambia as part of a volunteer global health effort. For the first time, emergency medicine attendings and residents joined the pediatric residency team, introducing point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) education at Kanifing and Basang Hospitals—facilities with very limited imaging resources. Through lectures, bedside teaching, and hands-on patient care, providers learned to use ultrasound to guide real-time medical decisions, improving outcomes for patients. At the conclusion of the trip, the team donated portable ultrasounds to the hospitals, enabling providers to continue practicing their new skills and strengthening patient care into the future.
