A Moments That Matter Story<\/h6>\n

At TeamHealth, our mission is to deliver exceptional care during life\u2019s pivotal moments. In emergency medicine, those moments often arrive without warning\u2014demanding equal measures of skill, courage, and compassion.<\/p>\n

One such moment came when Dr. Charles Budzyn, an emergency medicine resident, was faced with a parent rushing through the doors carrying an unresponsive child.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019ve ever heard the guttural yell of a parent when their child is in danger, you don\u2019t forget it,\u201d Dr. Budzyn said. \u201cIt\u2019s the kind of sound that makes you drop everything and run.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without hesitation, he took the child in his arms and sprinted to the trauma room.\u00a0Dr. Daniel Cobau, the TeamHealth attending physician on duty, arrived as the team worked to stabilize the child. \u201cWhen I got there, we didn\u2019t know what had caused the issue. That\u2019s one of the hardest parts\u2014you\u2019re trying to put together the pieces in real time, and there\u2019s no room for error.\u201d<\/p>\n

Together, the team worked methodically, running through possible causes.\u00a0What both clinicians remember most is the seamless teamwork. \u201cIt was all hands on deck,\u201d said Dr. Budzyn. \u201cEvery nurse, every physician, every staff member knew their role. In moments like that, hesitation isn\u2019t an option.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Dr. Cobau, the case reinforced a lesson every emergency clinician learns early: preparation saves lives. \u201cIn an emergency, seconds matter,\u201d he said. \u201cYou have to know exactly where critical equipment is\u2014especially pediatric airways and resuscitation tools. It\u2019s not enough to have a general idea. You need to be able to reach for it instinctively.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both clinicians noted how pediatric cases add another layer of intensity. \u201cThe stakes feel even higher,\u201d said Dr. Cobau. \u201cEvery life matters, but when it\u2019s a child, the weight is heavier. Tools like the\u00a0Broselow tape<\/a>\u00a0are lifesavers because they take away the guesswork on equipment and medications in a high-pressure moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

For both doctors, the night left an imprint. \u201cThis is why we do it,\u201d said Dr. Budzyn. \u201cTo be there for families in their worst moments, and to make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Cobau agreed. \u201cIt\u2019s terrifying in the moment, but when you see a positive outcome, it\u2019s the most rewarding part of our work. It\u2019s exactly why we chose this field.\u201d<\/p>\n
